Amber River has completed a transaction with US private equity firm Stone Point Capital, which was finalised in July 2026. Co-Head of Private Equity at Stone Point, Fayez Muhtadie, commented: “Amber River stands out for its clear purpose, strong culture and commitment to enabling advisors to deliver sustainable long-term value and positive outcomes for clients.”
Amber River currently advises on approximately £15 billion of client assets and employs over 330 independent financial planners, advisers, technical experts and investment professionals. The group operates across 13 regional wealth centres in the UK, alongside two dedicated centres focused on mortgage advice and investment management.
In June 2025, Penta Capital valued the company at approximately £800 million, while Citywire reported in February 2026 that Stone Point was close to acquiring the firm for around £900 million, suggesting an increase in valuation from the earlier estimate.
Mary-Anne McIntyre, CEO of Amber River, commented: “Today we have become one of the leading financial planning firms in the UK supporting around 80,000 clients.”
Penta Capital, Amber River's founding private equity investor, described the backing from Stone Point as a “significant milestone” for the company, adding that “it also represents the next stage in the firm’s evolution and while progress to date has been impressive, we know there is a great deal more success to come.” Penta Capital's decision to remain invested following Stone Point's investment suggests continued confidence in Amber River's long-term growth prospects.
Stone Point is one of the world's largest financial services-focused investment firms, with more than $70 billion in assets under management (AUM). The Connecticut-based private equity firm has significant experience investing in wealth management, having completed a deal for Kestra Holdings in 2025.
The UK financial planning sector continues to experience significant consolidation, with a growing number of private equity firms backing businesses capable of acquiring smaller firms and achieving greater scale. Transactions such as the investment in Amber River by Stone Point demonstrate continued private equity confidence in the opportunities available within the sector, particularly through buy-and-build strategies.
As of March 2026, Citywire's PE leaderboard identified 49 private equity-backed firms in the financial services industry, a 22.5% increase from 40 in 2025. This further supports the view that private equity investors continue to see significant opportunities for growth and consolidation within the industry.
