Advanta Solutions Ltd has acquired Westcotts Financial Management Ltd, strengthening its presence in the South West and supporting its continued growth as a national wealth management group.
The transaction brings an established regional financial planning business into Advanta’s wider platform, while enabling Westcotts Financial Management to retain its existing identity, client relationships and regional presence.
Capital & Trust supported the transaction, working with the businesses to structure a deal that aligned their respective growth objectives while maintaining continuity for Westcotts’ clients and team.
A strategic fit for continued growth
Westcotts Financial Management had established a strong position in the South West of England, building its reputation around long-term client relationships and a people-focused culture.
As the business looked towards its next stage of growth, access to greater resources, long-term investment and a wider national infrastructure offered an opportunity to scale while preserving the characteristics that had underpinned its regional success.
For Advanta, the acquisition aligned with its broader buy-and-build strategy of bringing established financial planning businesses into its national platform.
Westcotts’ regional presence, existing client base and cultural alignment provided an opportunity for Advanta to strengthen its South West footprint while further increasing the scale of its wealth management operations.
Capital & Trust’s role
Capital & Trust provided strategic support throughout the acquisition process, drawing on its understanding of market dynamics, valuation models and buyer behaviour within the financial services sector.
The transaction was structured to support the strategic objectives of both businesses while maintaining continuity for Westcotts’ employees and clients.
Following the acquisition, the financial planning business continues to trade as Westcotts Chartered Financial Planners, operating from its existing offices in Exeter, Plymouth and Weston-super-Mare.
For Advanta, the transaction contributed to the continued development of its national platform and helped take the group beyond £2.5 billion in client assets under management and stewardship. It also marked Advanta’s 12th acquisition since 2021.
The transaction creates opportunities for continued collaboration between Advanta and the broader Westcotts accountancy practice, supporting long-term client service and future strategic growth.
Our perspective
The acquisition reflects a wider theme within the wealth management sector: scale does not necessarily have to come at the expense of local identity.
For established regional financial planning businesses, joining a larger platform can provide access to technology, compliance infrastructure, investment and wider resources. At the same time, much of the value within these businesses is often rooted in long-standing client relationships, local reputation and the people delivering the advice.
For acquirers pursuing a buy-and-build strategy, identifying businesses with complementary capabilities is therefore only part of the equation. Cultural alignment and the ability to preserve the qualities that made a business successful in the first place can be equally important.
The Advanta and Westcotts transaction demonstrates how a carefully structured acquisition can combine the resources and scale of a national platform with the relationships and identity of an established regional business.
